DIY Apps
Whether you're a novice or experienced handyman it's always helpful to have the correct information. Using technology has now never been easier to make that information available at your finger tips.
We shopped around Apple's iTunes App Store for the best and most useful DIY and hardware iPhone applications. Three favorite apps, all under $5. Each one can become your favourite next tool to help perfect your next DIY project.
PICK PAINT COLORS Ben Color Capture by Benjamin Moore (free) Trouble finding the perfect colour you saw just the other day to match with your next DIY project then this is the app for you. Take photos of shades you like then upload that image and get their closest matches. With a 3,000 color library it enables you to create and save a virtual paint chip, this can be recreated in any hardware store. Matching paint colours? No Problem!!!
ILLUMINATE DARK PLACES Torch by exact Magic ($0.99) This DIY favorite changes your iPhone into a purposeful bright light. As a torch it's useful in even in low light, but its ability to do the job is what really makes this app a must have. It features a selection of light colors, bulb types, and different brightness levels, that can be controlled by tapping the screen of your phone. Each colour serves a different function. Red for night vision, blue for early dawn and yellow is a softer alternative to white during the day.
ESTIMATE COST Home Improvement Calculator by PunkStar Studios ($4.99) This handy app is so much more than a calculator. It's programmed to help you work out how much of the diy supplies you need for the job, (paint, wallpaper, mulch, tiling, decking, gravel, concrete, or fencing) that you'll need for your project, best of all how much it's all going to cost you. The app's tiling segment is brilliant, you can enter the width of grout and it offsets that value by the number of tiles needed. What did we do before?
