Do it Yourself Plumbing Tips

From The Masters Hardware Team

Plumbers are expensive and in a two speed economy you could be looking at a hefty bill depending where you live. One example is if you have a blocked drain there are a few DIY ideas to get it working again.

Before you do anything make sure you know where the mains water supply is located to your property so you can turn it off if necessary. One way a kitchen drain can clog up is a build up of grease over time. A little known tip is to pour MORE HOT grease down the drain to begin with. It will actually cause hardened grease to liquefy and move along the pipes. The benefit of trying this first is that it’s safer for the environment rather than using harsh toxic chemicals. Another way to try and unblock the drain is to use a plunger which once again may do the job before having the need for chemicals. If you can do it yourself, save money by not calling a plumber and be environmentally friendly it's a great outcome.
